February is National Heart Month/American Heart Month – raise awareness about heart disease and how to prevent it.

  •  Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
  • Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.
  • The good news? Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and take an active role in managing their health.
  • How to make healthy choices to lower your risk of developing heart disease or controlling your disease if you are already affected:
    • Watch your weight
    • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
    • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
    • If you do drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
    • Eat healthy
    • Get active – studies show that walking every day is one of the best exercises to improve and maintain your health.

February 3rd is National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women and heart disease.
